The bipartisan National Council on Election Integrity — a group of more than 40 former elected officials, former Cabinet secretaries, retired military officials, and civic leaders — issued the following statement in the wake of news that President Donald Trump fired Chris Krebs, the director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA):
“All public servants putting country above party deserve the thanks and support of all Americans. Firing public servants who are defending the integrity of our elections makes our country weaker, not stronger. CISA Director Chris Krebs honorably served all Americans and tirelessly worked to protect the 2020 elections from foreign interference. Under his leadership, CISA helped make the 2020 elections the most secure in American history. The work of CISA Director Chris Krebs and his team made the 2020 elections more safe for all Americans. The same is true of Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger of Georgia, who has performed his job with the utmost integrity under difficult circumstances. All Americans owe them both a debt of gratitude.”
