National Council on Election Integrity launches new $2 million ad buy urging an orderly transition: “It’s time to move forward and get to work”

The bipartisan National Council on Election Integrity — a group of more than 40 former elected officials, former Cabinet secretaries, retired military officials, and civic leaders — today announced a $2 million national ad buy about the urgent need to move forward with an orderly transition of power.

The new ad states: “Our adversaries aren’t waiting. The coronavirus isn’t waiting. The economy isn’t waiting. America shouldn’t have to wait either. The American people have spoken. The result is clear. It’s time to move forward and get to work.”

Said National Council on Election Integrity Spokesman Michael Beckel: “A smooth transition is essential for the United States to be able to address a host of issues, from the coronavirus pandemic to the economy to threats from our foreign adversaries. The new administration needs to be able to hit the ground running on day one.”

The National Council on Election Integrity’s new TV ads will air nationally in both English and Spanish on cable and broadcast, including the Sunday morning shows this weekend on ABC News, CBS News, and NBC News.

The National Council on Election Integrity has also called on General Services Administration (GSA) Administrator Emily W. Murphy to “release the funds, facilities, and other services necessary to start a smooth and efficient transition.”

Moreover, the ad buy comes on the heels of a joint press briefing done in conjunction with Citizens for a Strong Democracy and the National Task Force on Election Crises about why a seamless transition is essential for national security.

That press briefing — which you can watch online here — featured two former Secretaries of Homeland Security (Democrat Janet Napolitano and Republican Michael Chertoff), two former members of the 9/11 Commission (Democrat Tim Roemer and Republican Tom Kean), and one former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (retired Adm. Bill Owens).

Including this new ad buy, the National Council on Election Integrity has spent more than $10 million since the beginning of October on TV and digital ads nationally and in key battleground states highlighting our nation’s ability to hold successful elections for more than 240 years and thanking voters and elected officials for their participation in elections in 2020 that were safe, secure, and transparent.
